AHIMSA TATTOO

“I turn quite a few heads when I introduce myself as a vegan tattoo artist, which thrills me. After graduation, I joined a corporate office for a typical nine-to-five gig. I had always been more in touch with my creative side as an artist and musician, and thus I could not adjust to the office where I was working. It just never sat well with me. Since a very young age, I have always been into drawing and sketching. Taking after my father, who himself is an artist, I never really thought of making a career out of it. After I quit the job and started working with my brother at his tattoo studio, I realised I enjoyed working there and thus decided to continue pursuing this.Concern for the well-being of animals has always been a part of who I am. When I was in college, I learned to channel this better by involving various animal-rescue NGOs. The final push came when my mother asked me to visit a butcher's shop one day. Although it was such a common sight, I felt horrified. I didn’t want to be a part of this. I refused to eat meat for a long while, but meat has always been a part of my lifestyle as I come from a Catholic background. It took some while, but then I gave up on having meat for good. Later with a lot of research and fitness schedules, I realised that dairy did not agree well with me either. Along the way, I had set upon this soul-searching journey, which led me to veganism. And that’s how I became one.I realised that I could incorporate my beliefs with my passion and thus started a studio of my own in Powai, and that’s about it. I am thrilled that I took the leap of faith and landed in this beautiful place where I work wholeheartedly towards something I believe in. When presented with the opportunity, I hope that everyone does the same. Because sometimes it is good to take a chance.”
