Individual Intellectual Property Consultant

“Learning is an ever-growing process”, this has been my motivation and a driving force for me. The urge to learn has been a constant throughout my academic and professional career so far. My life began in a huge Marwari family consisting of over 100 family members in 1990. A very traditional Indian community well known for its business acumen. From an early childhood we were imbibed with the values of team work and collaboration. Our family also emphasised on learning local languages apart from English, so that we can understand different cultures in India and appreciate differences among people. My family values been a cornerstone in my professional journey. Growing up in a business family, I learned business acumen at home and pursued business studies in college. It was in college that I got really fascinated by the concept of intellectual property (IP). After formally learnt IP management I helped my family business of home appliances to develop an IP portfolio comprising of registered trademarks, industrial designs and patents creating an Indian brand Lesco. The branding and commercialisation of IP led to double the profits and sales in 5 countries for the company. The turning point in my career was when I began working with Hindustan Unilever Limited in 2015. It enhanced my experience in the IP management as I received pan India and global exposure in brand protection at local level of a multinational with diverse IP portfolio. The most satisfying project was leading IPR advocacy and capacity building workshops since 2017. This project was conducted in two parts- for school students and regulatory authorities. We created a direct impact on over 50,000 students and officials. Moreover, this project made me discover my passion for IP education and made me realize the importance of quality IP education at grassroots level for improving IP ecosystem in India. Presently, I work as a freelance Individual IP Consultant and educationist.
