Labanya Manjari Mohanta

Ahrigulture - Organic manure

After Labanya completed her class/grade 12th, her family was unable to further support her higher studies. She was married soon after and there was little to no possibility of continuing her studies after that. However, she was able to work with PRADAN (Professional Assistance for Development Action) as an agricultural trainer, and also learned different agricultural practices like organic manure and biopesticide preparation. She also encourages other farmers to adopt these practices. One day, she heard about the organic entrepreneur model and that sparked her interest to become an entrepreneur. In 2019, when covid19 struck, and most people were looking for work, Labanya had already established herself as an entrepreneur and had earned INR 130000. She was subsequently enterprise training conducted by APPICOL, and this entails convincing and encouraging 150 farmers to continue procuring organic manure through her business. So far, she has been successful in doing so. She is now earning well and is able to fully pay for her son’s education. She is now an equal decision-maker and stakeholder in her family.
